The reason that would be the best way to do it is because W10 will be automatically activated after you are connected to the internet. That's how I updated both of mine from W7 to W10 way back when. Have you tried simply doing an in-place upgrade from W7 to W10 by clicking on the blue Update Now button at the link below?

Because the support people couldn't do it that way and the only option was for remote access. The windows update didn't pick up anything for some drivers and its still using a microsoft basic display driver. My main thing now is my pc drivers don't want to install, they won't even load and i don't know how to get them to work. The ssd definately makes this thing faster i disabled cortana and other apps/settings that i know i wouldn't use. Kind of a bit paranoid now but eh the system seems to be working properly now, and windows 10 actually runs almost at par with another laptop that has 6 gb of ram but a standard 5400 rpm hard drive and a quad core processor. Most of the time the only thing that downloads and installs is a definition update for Windows Defender. The lack of control over Windows Update is one thing that initially annoyed me about Win 10. However, if you can get on a PC that's already running Win 10, you can use the Media Creation Tool to create an ISO or USB which you can use to do a clean install. If you do go the update route, because you're running Win 7 starter, you'll get Win 10 core. Many, including myself, had problems going the update route and ended up doing clean installs. Windows 10 is fine as long as you do a clean install. What error did you get with the Microsoft download? Was it the OEM Key error? Today I got "Could not mount image." and I don't know why. Normally, I can open ISOs in Windows/File Explorer and take a look at things. 
I had a problem with the Win 7 ISOs I downloaded from the site today with qBittorrent.
